The Buckeyes celebrated Student Appreciation Day on Saturday, which gave fans at the Woody Hayes Athletic Centre access to practice and the team’s scrimmage.

Ryan Day and his team made the most of the presence of numerous elite recruiters at the tournament, as they secured four significant commitments in a few three days.

Before the celebrations truly got underway, four-star defensive lineman London Merritt, the first new recruit in the 2025 class, made it official on Friday afternoon by announcing his commitment to Ohio State.

The 6-foot-2, 255-pound edge rusher, who is originally from Georgia, presently attends IMG Academy in Florida for his prep team.

According to 247Sports Composite, Merritt is ranked as the No. 10 defensive lineman and the No. 101 player overall.

Ohio State made Merritt an offer back in January of 2023. He has now visited Columbus four times; his official visit will take place in June when he returns to the university.

“Ohio State is the ideal place for me, and I wanted to choose a programme that mirrors my hunger and pursuit of greatness,” Merritt said to On3.

“[Larry Johnson] ultimately wants me to be the best man, player, and person I can be.”

What Andrew Ivins of 247Sports had to say about Merritt in his scouting report on the rookie defensive tackle is summarised here:

“Jolts offensive tackles and tight ends with a powerful punch, and although while his sack total doesn’t always reflect it, he can win fast plays by slicing and diving past blockers.

Demonstrates some instincts as a run defender and makes stops in pursuit while changing directions and maintaining a strong leg push.

Next in chronological order was the pledge made on Saturday by four-star linebacker Tarvos Alford, a prospect who briefly appeared to have gone to Florida….
