Tommy Kahnle’s journey back to the Yankees has encountered a more obstacle.,682&quality=75&strip=all

The reliever has been sidelined once more.

He began the season on the 15-day disabled list after starting his offseason throwing programme later than expected because of a shoulder problem that interrupted his season the previous year.

Before the Yankees’ 5-2 victory over the Diamondbacks on Monday, manager Aaron Boone stated that Kahnle’s growth has stalled “a little bit” as a result of his poor recovery after a live batting practice last week in Tampa.

Boone declared, “So he’s back in his throwing programme,” prior to the Dodgers’ 5-2 victory at Chase Field. “How long that slows him, I don’t know.”

The April 12–14 series in Cleveland was the Yankees’ original plan for Kahnle’s comeback, but that date is probably going to be postponed.

Although Boone stated on Monday that he was unsure of when Kahnle may start a rehab assignment, it was anticipated that the 34-year-old right-hander would need to pitch in at least a few rehab games before rejoining the Yankees.

In the first series of the season against the Astros, the Yankees bullpen pitched 15 ¹/₃ scoreless innings, despite already having relievers Scott Effross and Lou Trivino on the 60-day injured list.

The newest member of the Yankees’ bullpen is the cousin of Kirk Cousins.

After being acquired in a trade with the White Sox on Sunday in exchange for monetary considerations, Jake Cousins was activated onto the roster on Monday.

After signing a minor league contract with the White Sox in December, the right-handed reliever attended spring training with the team but began the season with their Triple-A club.

Rather, the Yankees moved quickly to acquire him and brought him to their bullpen.

Boone remarked, “I know our guys are really excited about him.”

The feeling among the scouts, front office staff, and analysts is that we have a gifted player with potential that hasn’t yet been completely realised. We like his talent, I know that.

The new Falcons quarterback’s cousin, Cousins, is a heavy slider-sinker pitcher, which fits the mould of the Yankees’ successful former pitchers.

The 29-year-old has one minor league option left, giving the Yankees some flexibility with him. He has a career 3.08 ERA in 51 appearances over the course of three seasons in the major leagues.

In order to create space for Cousins on the roster (26-man and 40-man), Tanner Tully, a left-hander, was designated for assignment by the Yankees.

The Yankees released the rosters for their minor league affiliates on Monday; because their season had begun, Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s roster had previously been made public.

Top prospect OF Spencer Jones, LHP Brock Selvidge, and C Ben Rice were assigned to Double-A Somerset; LHP Kyle Carr and 2B Roc Riggio were assigned to High-A Hudson Valley; and SS George Lombard Jr. and SS Roderick Arias were assigned to Single-A Tampa.

Nobody was prepared for Juan Soto’s unexpected win as the AL Player of the Week.

He had just finished the season with a 1.365 OPS while batting 9-for-17 and playing excellent defence in right field against the Astros. .. It was the Yankees’ first visit to Chase Field since the 2019 series, when CC Sabathia struck out 3,000 batters.
