Dodgers All-Star Free Agent Drawing Interest From NL Contender

J.D. Martinez, an All-Star designated hitter for the Los Angeles Dodgers and a free agent, may soon find a new home.

The New York Mets are reportedly interested in Martinez, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Martinez, 36, is coming off a fantastic 2023 season with the Boys in Blue. With 432 at-bats, the six-time All-Star had a.271 average, 33 home runs, 117 hits, 61 runs, and 103 RBIs.

The San Francisco Giants reportedly offered Martinez a $14 million, one-year contract, but Martinez turned it down. The three-time Silver Slugger still has tremendous power and is a threat at the plate. He fit right in with the Dodgers and will try to carry over his output with a new team.

The Mets, who rotated at designated hitter the whole 2023 season, could use a reliable and outstanding DH. Their DHs had a slash line of.220/.312/.403 for the Mets in 2023. Martinez may raise those figures on his own if he is half of the player he was in 2023 — possibly even higher.

On paper, Martinez would inject some pop onto an already potent roster. It’s about time for him to sign a contract, so we’ll see if the right-handed slugger will be signed by the Los Angeles Angels or the Mets.
