The day’s major news continued to center around the draft, including updates on signings and more
thorough analysis from our prospect experts. Regarding prospects, the Braves may have moved their
most intriguing position-player prospect to full-season ball.
Here are my own, mediocrely educated opinions about the draft class. I believe that the key components
of the team’s roster-building plan are the relative stability of position players and the erratic and injury-
proneness of pitchers. The team chooses to focus on pitching volume rather than making long-term
commitments to pitchers by establishing a robust pitching development system and an extremely
appealing work environment. Their position players’ extensions allow them to secure lower AAV
contracts in addition to for such hitters, but also give themselves the luxury of lengthier turnover cycles
for position players, allowing them to invest more draft cash in pitching without sacrificing position
player development. It makes sense to use prospect capital, especially pitching capital, to add more elite
hitters to the mix in order to develop a competitor who is reasonably consistent. As far as I can tell, this
draft did a good job of balancing quality and quantity potential. It was a continuation of this approach.

organization’s second-round choice. Our annual highlight, the Braves Draft Signing Tracker, is now

signability and player-by-player scouting in addition to more general observations.
Luis Guanipa, an exciting outfield talent, was promoted to Augusta following an impressive 18-year
career in the FCL. Since draft prospects are coming into the system, he wasn’t the only one promoted to
Augusta.
