An NBA fan claims to have seen player Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers in Italy and begged him to sign with the Miami Heat.
Last month, Ashish Mathur of Hoops Wire described the possible outcome of a trade that would bring Mitchell to the Heat.
Additionally, in a post on X last month, Heat centre Bam Adebayo contributed to the rumours linking Mitchell to Miami.
In the regular season of 2023–24, Mitchell was among the NBA’s best offensive players. In his second season with the Cavaliers, he scored 26.6 points per game on 46.2 percent shooting from the field and 36.8 percent from outside the arc. He also added 6.1 assists per game in 55 games.
Considering that Darius Garland scored the second-most points on the team on average (18.0), he led the Cavaliers in points per game by a significant margin. Furthermore, Mitchell was the team’s second-highest assist provider per game, trailing only Garland, who averaged 6.5.
The 27-year-old assisted the Cavaliers in winning their first postseason series since 2018 following an incredible regular season. In the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs, Cleveland defeated Paolo Banchero’s Orlando Magic. Mitchell scored an average of 28.7 points per game and shot 45.9 percent from the field during the series.
Then, Mitchell scored more points than he did against Orlando in Cleveland’s second-round series against the Boston Celtics. Even though Mitchell only participated in three of the series’ five games, the Celtics were defenceless against him while he was fit.
Against a Celtics club that leads the NBA Finals 3-1, Mitchell averaged a scorching 31.7 points per game and made 53.3 percent of his 3-pointers.
The Heat would be a formidable team on paper with Jimmy Butler, Adebayo, and Mitchell, especially given how productive he was in his second season in Cleveland. Therefore, it would seem that the Cavaliers should take all necessary steps to guarantee that the former University of Louisville standout stays with the team.
