The all-time leading passer for Oklahoma, Dillon Gabriel, looks to be headed to the transfer portal for his last season of eligibility.
Gabriel posted a statement on X (previously Twitter) thanking OU supporters for their support and for giving him the chance to lead and be a part of the squad on 128 and 129, even though he did not specifically say that he was entering the transfer portal. Gabriel composed a letter.
Not everyone was shocked by the decision. Even while many anticipated that Gabriel would try his hand at the NFL after this season, he had previously said that this would be his last season as he worked to pass the baton to Arnold.
In terms of career passing yards and touchdown passes, Gabriel now ranks in the top 10 after throwing for 3,660 yards, 30 touchdowns, and six interceptions this season.
Over his career, he has 125 touchdowns and 14,865 throwing yards.
He gained 373 yards and scored 12 touchdowns this season, which helped the Sooners’ rushing offense.
His most noteworthy play occurred in a 34-30 victory over Texas, where he led the Sooners in a late touchdown drive that was capped off by a 3-yard touchdown pass to Nic Anderson with 15 seconds remaining.
After three seasons at UCF, where he first worked under Jeff Lebby as offensive coordinator, Gabriel joined OU.
Lebby convinced Gabriel to join him as Brent Venables’ offensive coordinator after being hired.
