On June 6, the Milwaukee Brewers signed right-hander Elieser Hernández, a former member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, to a major league one-year contract.
The Brewers assigned him to a new position on Wednesday.
After being claimed off waivers by the Dodgers, Hernández had four games where he did not show much promise. The reason for his DFA was his inability to hold a 6-0 lead against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. In four appearances (six innings), he had a 3.00 ERA for Milwaukee.
The 29-year-old was immediately removed from the Dodgers’ 40-man roster after being designated for assignment. He chose free agency over accepting the assignment, and if waivers are approved, he may end up back there. Hernández had an 8.38 ERA and was 0-1.
This season, in 9.2 innings in five games (one start), the Dodgers have struck out six while walking three.
Hernández played portions of five seasons with the Miami Marlins, mostly as a starter, prior to signing a contract with Los Angeles.
He is 10-22 overall with a 5.15 ERA, 97 walks, and 283 strikeouts in 297.1 innings across 95 games (49 starts) in portions of six big league seasons.
