With no agreement in place for Connor Roberts to return, this could take the form of a new right-back joining Farke’s squad soon.
Leeds hopes to sign a £7 million player.
Leeds is’set to move’ for Sheffield United right-back Jayden Bogle during this transfer window, according to sports journalist Mike McGrath. This move would finally address problems that have been bothering the Championship team down that flank for long.
Archie Grey filled in here a number of times during the previous season, but now that the 18-year-old phenom is a Tottenham Hotspur player, it’s not surprising that Farke and company are considering their options now, in advance of the upcoming campaign.
However, football analyst Alan Nixon reports that the newly relegated Blades want the Whites to cough up £7 million to consider parting ways, so it won’t be easy for Leeds to land their ultimate goal in Bogle.
Right now, it’s said that the West Yorkshire team is way off paying that much to sign the right-back.
Despite this recent setback over a price, the second-tier promotion hopefuls could still go all out to win Bogle. Football journalist Graham Smyth further fueled the fire surrounding Leeds’ protracted search for a new right-back by revealing that an imminent move for Roberts wasn’t planned.
When you compare the 23-year-old to his Burnley counterpart, who also had a 23/24 season, you could even argue that the latter is an upgrade.
What Bogle is able to provide Leeds
The strike Bogle scored against Manchester City in August of last year demonstrates his willingness to go forward and assist in assaults, which will fit Farke’s preferred aggressive philosophy for his teams.
The 20-year-old Blades player has 12 goals to his name from 103 games spent in South Yorkshire. His career resume shows an amazing 115 games played in the Championship alone, along with 16 assists.
Conversely, if we take a step back and examine the previous campaign in isolation, Roberts truly struggled to secure a starting position in the Leeds lineup, far from any previous heroics in the second tier. Farke gave him an average of just 27 minutes per game, which is reflected in his dismal statistics in the above table.
At least his stats from what was a roller coaster of a season for everyone associated with Chris Wilder’s team allow Bogle to hold his head somewhat high. His average of 4.8 wins over all duels won per game actually surpasses that of players like Sam Byram, who played right-back for Leeds last season and routinely stepped up, but whose average is only 4.4 duels.
Roberts’ only goal will be to recover with Burnley, who are now in the same tier as Leeds, and maybe even win over new manager Scott Parker, a Welshman.
Farke and company will have to decide whether to make the bold £7 million move for Bogle, knowing that the costly 23-year-old—who was previously described as a “quality” player by Blades manager Wilder—could resolve many future selection quandaries.
