It has become increasingly customary in today’s college football recruiting scene for elite institutions

throughout the nation to visit Florida and snatch up all of their best recruits. If he decides to stick with

the most recent “WR U” standard, one five-star wide receiver might defy the trend and decide to remain

in his home state.

Next week, Orlando, Florida-native Vernell Brown III, a five-star wide receiver recruit, is expected to

reveal his commitment, which is supposedly limited to just four universities. Out of over 40 FBS schools,

Florida State, Florida, Miami (FL), and Ohio State are the final four that have formally offered Brown.

Although Brown was a little small when he first entered the recruiting process and took some time to get

up the recruiting boards, his profile has been slowly increasing over the past year. Why are all the big

recruiting services and so many colleges so impressed right now? And will he really go up north to play

for Ryan Day and the Buckeyes, or will he take his skills to somewhere in Florida?

Vernell Brown III, Five Star Wide Receiver

Although Brown was a little undersized and slender in his early high school years, he has always been

one of the nation’s most explosive receivers. In addition to returning multiple kicks and punts for scores

and averaging over 20 yards per reception during his high school career, he has qualified for state twice

in the track event of the triple jump. And perhaps even more astounding than all of his on-field

accomplishments in high school is his record in 7-on-7 competitions.

Earlier past summer, Vernell Brown and the South Florida Express completely crushed the OT7

Championships, defeating the Coastline Stars 37-21 in the championship game. For those who are not

know, the OT7 Championship is an event that features the top skill position and defensive back talent in

the country, bringing together all the most competitive 7-on-7 teams from throughout the nation.

Because he and quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. were practically unstoppable, Brown was one of his

team’s MVPs.

He has been steadily moving up the recruitment boards ever since he started demolishing opponents in

7-on-7 and recruiting circuit tournaments. Brown is difficult to stop or slow down in any manner when

he is in space, and he frequently finds himself there as seen by his more than 1300 receiving yards from

the previous season. It seems sense that he would be desired by every college football program in the

nation.

Predicted Landing Spot for Brown

He’s played a lot of football as a 7-on-7 teammate with South Florida Express quarterback Tramell Jones

Jr., as was previously noted. Jones is (and has been for a while) devoted to Florida State. A lot of people

think the tie will be sufficient to make him a Florida State Seminole. One would think so after seeing

some of the things the two young guys have done together this summer. Check out the video in the

It’s far from certain, though, that Brown will attend Florida State. As Brown revealed to On3Sports

during the On3 Elite Series event in May, he actually informed the Gators coaches that “it would mean

more” if he went to Gainesville. Why? There are a few, but the primary one is personal. His father

participated in more than 40 games as a defensive back for the Gators between 2001 and 2005. And as

of right now, Anthony Richardson’s manager is his father. With Brown, the Gators undoubtedly have a

few personal advantages.

However, you shouldn’t write off Miami or Ohio State entirely. He has paid more visits to Miami than

any other university, with the exception of the Gators. And although though Ohio State consistently

prevails in most years in wide receiver competitions during the recruiting trail, they still haven’t signed

their real “alpha” for the 2025 class. Alongside five-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair, who may wind up

as the nation’s top recruit overall, Brown might be the face of Ohio State’s offensive class.

Ultimately, all the personal connections, remarks, and interactions with the Florida Gators will probably

put him in Gainesville, but considering their past performances, don’t be shocked if Mike Norvell or wide

receiver guru Brian Hartline steal him away at the last second. in the evolution of wide receivers.
