The Boston Bruins have hired a new play-by-play announcer to replace Jack Edwards.
According to a Thursday press release, Judd Sirott will join analyst Andy Brickley in the NESN broadcast booth.
“This job is unrivalled around the National Hockey League: an Original Six team in a spectacular hockey market, in one of the premier cities in the country,” said Sirott. “I am honoured to be the Boston Bruins’ new play-by-play announcer on NESN. It will be an honour to work with Andy Brickley and the NESN production staff, and I am grateful to the Boston Bruins organisation, NESN, and 98.5 The Sports Hub, among others, for this chance.”
Sirott will join the NESN broadcast crew after a national search following Jack Edwards’ retirement.
He most recently served seven seasons as the Bruins’ radio voice on 98.5 The Sports Hub.
“[He] is an excellent broadcaster with a deep knowledge of our organisation, fanbase, and market,” remarked Charlie Jacobs, the Boston Bruins’ CEO and Alternate Governor.
Sirott, a native of Arlington Heights, Illinois, attended the University of Michigan and aired hockey and football while there.
His professional hockey broadcasting career began with 12 years as the play-by-play voice and media relations director for the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.
Prior to arriving to Boston and conducting play-by-play at 98.5 The Sports Hub, he worked as the Chicago Blackhawks’ studio host for nine years.
He will now join Andy Brickley in the booth for his 24th season on NESN.
The former Bruins forward is looking forward to getting back to work.
“I grew up listening to Boston Bruins games on the radio, with renowned play-by-play voices. So I’m excited to have the B’s most recent, fantastic radio voice join me in calling games on TV,” said Andy Brickley, NESN colour analyst. “NESN viewers will really enjoy Judd’s love of the game, his knowledge and passion for the Bruins, and his respect for the fans.” Can’t wait to get started together!”
NESN has only had a few play-by-play announcers, the most recent being Jack Edwards, who has an excellent 19-year career.
Dale Arnold, Fred Cusick, and Dave Shea have also been play-by-play broadcasters for the Bruins on NESN for many years.
The Boston Bruins’ regular season opens on the road against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, October 8.
On Thursday, October 10, the Black & Gold return to Boston for their home opener against the Montreal Canadiens.
