The Kansas City Chiefs have had an up and down couple days of practice. The squad was in a great mood yesterday because Travis Kelce had brought a very special guest. No, it wasn’t her; he brought in former Chiefs great Alex Smith, who had the entire team excited.
However, at practice today, the team was in a bad mood because one of their great offensive linemen suffered a serious injury and had to be taken off the pitch.
Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman goes down during practice.
Every year, the Chiefs seem to have an emergency and huge concerns on the offensive line, and while it hasn’t prevented them from dominating the NFL, today’s practice incident is still quite alarming for the organisation.
The team has signed several lineman in free agency in the past, as keeping Patrick Mahomes upright in the pocket has resulted in a Super Bowl victory the last two seasons. The team’s most crucial task is to keep Mahomes safe, which is becoming increasingly difficult.
According to various accounts, the team’s star lineman, Jawaan Taylor, left practice today on a cart in the front seat. While the club and fans were first unaware of the nature of the injury, ESPN’s Adam Schefter has recently disclosed that it was a shoulder issue that will not sideline him for the season.
Fortunately, the team is not unduly concerned right now, unlike when he was leaving the pitch.
The Kansas City Chiefs make a change at the offensive line due to injury.
Taylor joined the team on a four-year contract worth $80 million. Taylor started every game last season, including the postseason. Taylor has had some troubles with false starts and holding penalties, but he has also been an important part of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl success.
Taylor has never missed a game during his five years in the league, which is really outstanding. We hope Taylor will be able to return to the field this season, but it will take some time to determine how long he will be gone.
Because of Taylor’s absence from practice, it appears like the team has already made some changes to the offensive line. According to Chiefs analyst Matt Derrick, Lucas Niang will now substitute in for Taylor:
We hope Jawaan recovers quickly and continues his trend of never missing a game!
