Leeds United are still looking for their first win of the season after a stalemate against Portsmouth on the opening day and a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup, and they are apparently interested in a player who may help improve their fortunes.
It hasn’t been the start Daniel Farke had hoped for, with his side looking to return to the Premier League at the second time of asking, this time without Crysencio Summerville and Archie Grey.
Since losing the former to West Ham United, those at Elland Road have been looking for attacking reinforcements, with both Jonathan Rowe and Million Manhoef mentioned, and that hunt is likely to heat up even more now that Brighton are closing in on the signing of Georginio Rutter, though the Whites are doing everything they can to tie him down to a new contract instead.
Rowe, of course, was just left out of Norwich City’s opening-day defeat to Oxford United, and he hopes to leave Carrow Road before the end of the month. Manhoef, on the other hand, provides a viable alternative for Leeds.
The Stoke City player has shown glimpses of his talent since arriving in the Championship during the winter transfer window, and there is plenty more to come.
However, none of those wingers may join at Elland Road this month. According to Charlie Gordon of The Express, Leeds, Norwich, and Sunderland are all interested in signing Burnley’s Manuel Benson. The Burnley winger was an unused replacement in Scott Parker’s first Championship game in command of the Clarets, a 4-1 victory against Luton Town, and hopes to start games this season.
Now 27 years old, Benson cannot afford to waste what is supposed to be his prime waiting on the bench, and with Leeds in need of a Summerville replacement – and potentially a Rutter one as well – he could emerge as an excellent candidate.
