1914: The Braves’ express slows as the Reds defeat Dick Crutcher 3-1.

1915: The new Braves Field debuts in Boston, drawing an estimated 46,500 fans to see the Braves and Dick Rudolph defeat the Cards 3-1.

1942: After going 1-6 before the All-Star break, Carl Hubbell wins his eighth straight game, defeating the Braves, 10-2. Mel Ott, a 39-year-old veteran, has three hits, including a home run into the Polo Grounds’ left field seats.

1948: Sheldon Jones leads the Giants to an 8-2 victory over the Braves. Sid Gordon hits his 24th and Johnny Mize’s 29th, both off Vern Bickford, to lead the New Yorkers. The Braves lead Brooklyn by one game.

1959: In Milwaukee, the Dodgers lead Don Drysdale 5-1 after five innings, but the Braves rally and tie it in the ninth with a run. The Dodgers lead 6-5 in the eleventh inning, but Hank Aaron hits Drysdale deep to tie the game. Drysdale is ultimately relieved, and Los Angeles wins in the 13th, 7-6.

1965: After hitting a ball on top of the pavilion at Sportsman’s Park, Braves’ Hank Aaron is denied a home run by umpire Chris Pelekoudas for being outside the batter’s box.

1995: Cards reliever Tom Henke earns a save in a 4-3 victory over the Braves. It is his 300th save, making him just the sixth pitcher to achieve it.

1998: Greg Maddux wins his 200th career game as the Braves defeat the Giants 8-4. All of Atlanta’s nine hits in the game were doubles.

2010: The Braves acquire 1B Derrek Lee from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for three minor league pitchers (Robinson Lopez, Tyrelle Harris, and Jeffrey Lorick), on the same day that starting first baseman Troy Glaus is placed on the disabled list due to inflammation in his left knee. In the following game, the first-place Braves defeated the Nationals 3-2 on Jason Heyward’s ninth-inning run-scoring single off Tyler Clippard.

2012: Hanley Ramirez scores four runs and hits two home runs as the Dodgers defeat the Atlanta Braves 6-2 in the annual Civil Rights Game. Hanley’s second-inning home run is followed by those of teammates James Loney and Luis Cruz in a period of four pitches off Ben Sheets. The Dodgers’ only hits of the game were four home runs, which were enough to give Aaron Harang the win.

2021: Freddie Freeman hits the cycle for the second time in his career, leading the Braves to an 11-9 victory over the Marlins.

MLB History

1977: Dodger P. Don Sutton pitches his fifth one-hitter, tying the National League record, and blanks the Giants 7-0. The only hit is Marc Hill’s two-out single in the eighth.

2002 The Rangers defeat the Blue Jays 10-7, with Alex Rodriguez tying a major-league record as the fourth player to hit six home runs in three games. His two home runs give him the American League lead with 44.

2009: Catcher Ivan Rodriguez is dealt from the Houston Astros to the Texas Rangers for a minor leaguer and a player to be announced later, returning to the franchise that launched his legendary career.

2019: Zack Greinke earns his 200th career win as the Astros defeat the Athletics 4-1.
