TRANSFER UPDATE: Norwich City looking forward to acquiring a talented striker before transfer season ends…

City remain active in the final two weeks of the transfer window, with a striker at the top of the list after declining to sign Turkish forward Bertug Yildirim following Idah’s Celtic left last week.

“I don’t think we are there yet, but we are working on some different options for us,” Thorup said following Saturday’s 2-2 league match with Blackburn. “So, once again, I’m hoping it will be before the next game (vs Sheffield United). You never know.

“When it comes to football transfers, it requires more than one or two parties to reach an agreement. We have to wait and see, but I am confident that we can bring quality to the group.”

Josh Sargent demonstrated his worth to the cause with a goal and an assist against Rovers, but he is the only healthy senior central striker on the books, with Ashley Barnes on the fitness rehab path and youngster Ken Aboh set for a Football League loan.

Thorup claimed ahead to the weekend’s draw that he wants to take his time finding the right match for his attacking unit.

“What we discuss at the moment is the type of striker we want,” remarked the manager. “Should we look for a striker who is a like-for-like replacement for Adam?” Or should we look for another type of striker?

“Because we have Josh in the building, and he’s the physical, strong number nine, do we want a player who can also cover other areas, where Josh and Adam didn’t really fit on the left or right side?

“There are additional choices for this. The most essential thing to us is finding the best possible fit for the group. Of course, a player should be technically strong and have an energy in his game that allows him to press and run, but there are various choices.

“I understand that when the window is open, everyone gets impatient and says, ‘Okay, let’s get him in.'” Let’s get him in. But, in the end, no one will remember this week or the following two weeks, but everyone will remember whether it was a good or horrible decision. So it is the most crucial thing for us.

“We can’t bring in players who aren’t used to being calm and comfortable with the ball. We will not bring in players who lack the intensity to play the game that we want to play.

“To be honest, we have a very strong recruitment department that can discover good players that want to come to this club and perform for this club because it is the best next step in their careers.

“There are several factors that play into it, including technical, tactical, personality, and where they are in their career. It is not easy, and it is not something you can accomplish overnight.”
