Fontel Mines, a 39-year-old from Richmond, has been a key figure in Virginia Tech’s coaching staff since joining in Pry’s first year. Despite several attempts from other programs to recruit him away, Mines has remained dedicated to the Hokies, and this promotion underscores the team’s commitment to retaining top talent.

Under Mines’ leadership, the wide receivers have shown marked improvement, and his prowess in recruiting has made him one of the top figures in the ACC. His successful acquisition of players such as Quan Felton, Jaylin Lane, and Ali Jennings from the transfer portal, along with high school prospects like Ayden Greene, Keylen “Brodie” Adams, and Chanz Wiggins, highlights his effectiveness in building a strong roster.
