Dale Earnhardt Jr., a beloved figure in NASCAR, has been a familiar voice in the broadcast booth for the
NASCAR Cup Series since he retired from racing in 2017. His analysis has graced NBC and its previous
networks since his debut in July 2018 at Chicagoland Speedway. However, as the 2024 season
approaches, Earnhardt finds himself without a contract with NBC, leaving his future in broadcasting
uncertain. Despite the possibility of returning to NBC, Earnhardt is exploring other opportunities and
may not be returning to the same network.
NBC is set to kick off its portion of the 2024 NASCAR season on June 16, with the Cup Series making its
debut at Iowa Speedway. This race will be the 17th of the 36 scheduled points races. The current booth
team, including Rick Allen, Steve Letarte, and Jeff Burton, has been together since 2015, and any
potential changes are yet to be confirmed.
Looking ahead, NASCAR has secured a significant seven-year media rights deal with Fox, NBC, Amazon,
and TNT Sports. Beginning in 2025, Fox Sports will broadcast the first 14 races of the season, followed
by a five-race streaming-only period on Amazon Prime Video. TNT Sports will cover the next five races,
with the final 14 races of the season returning to NBC Sports. This extensive deal, which includes 36
points races, the Busch Light Clash, and the All-Star Race, will continue through the 2031 season.
