Heartbreaking: Blue Jays star and son involved in a car accident…

Son of Blue Jays’ Erik Swanson out of ICU after hit by car.

After being hit by a car over the weekend, 4-year-old Erik Swanson, the son of Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Erik Swanson, was moved out of the paediatric intensive care unit at a Florida hospital.

Madison Swanson, Toby’s mother, shared the news on Wednesday night on her Instagram Story account.

“The most important update is that Toby is out of the PICU, and we are continuing to take it day by day,” she wrote. “We are very privileged, and God is so good. We are incredibly appreciative of the quick reaction time of the emergency personnel, the kind pedestrians who assisted while we awaited further instructions, and the incredible team at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. There is definitely someone keeping an eye on my little man”.

A little child who suffered potentially fatal injuries was the victim of a struck pedestrian call that occurred in Clearwater on Sunday morning, according to a news release issued by Clearwater Police on Tuesday.

Public information officer Rob Shaw revised the notice to say that the boy was airlifted to the hospital after being hit by a 2024 Ford Expedition driven by a valet driver near the Opal Sands Resort.

According to the announcement, the driver stayed at the scene and was assisting with the investigation. The extent of the injuries was not disclosed.

On Tuesday, Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Swanson would be spending time with his family while Toby recovers.

Madison Swanson commented, “I don’t know where to begin. I don’t have the words.” “Over the past three days, we have received an enormous amount of love and support. We can never fully put into words how valuable it has been to all of you who have reached out in whatever way.

“We see you, we hear you, but we don’t have the mental capacity to reach out to you all. It’s what’s kept our little boy going through everything.”

Swanson was acquired by the Blue Jays in a November 2022 trade with the Seattle Mariners. The 30-year-old right-hander played in 69 games during his first season with the Blue Jays in 2023, going 4-2 with a 2.97 ERA, four saves, and 75 strikeouts in 66⅔ innings.

On March 28, Toronto takes on the Tampa Bay Rays on the road to start the 2024 season.
