Cubs could be in mix to snatch $185 million superstar from Mets
The Chicago Cubs might be quite busy this winter.
It wouldn’t be difficult for Chicago to compete in the National League. The Cubs’ expectations for the 2024 Major League Baseball season haven’t come true. With their current record of 78-75, the Cubs are out of the postseason this year.
Despite this, Chicago has recently displayed some life, and as early as 2025, they might be a fascinating squad to follow. The Cubs may use a boost at first base, which is why Jon Heyman of the New York Post suggested they could be a good fit for Pete Alonso, the standout slugger for the New York Mets.
“He has 34 home runs in what is considered to be a ‘off’ year, yet his 127 OPS + is actually greater than 2023 with recent mechanical modifications,” Heyman stated. “He can definitely surpass the Mets’ reasonable $158 million attempt from the previous season. A rival estimates $185 million. If not, the New York Yankees (and maybe the Houston Astros if Soto walks) work, as do the Mets, Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners, Baltimore Orioles, San Diego Padres, and Cubs.”
Alonso is a real luminary. He is among baseball’s top sluggers and a four-time All-Star. Trade rumours have ramped up, and Chicago has already been linked to him several times. Don’t be astonished if the Cubs become engaged if he chooses not to re-sign with the Mets. This winter, Chicago should be busy and probably will be spending. One of them may choose to go after Alonso.
