Thorup takes over at Norwich after Wagner sacking

Johannes Hoff Thorup has been named the next head coach of Norwich City for a period of three years.

David Wagner, who was fired earlier this month after Norwich’s 4-0 loss to Leeds United in the Championship play-

off semi-final, is replaced by Thorup.

The Dane leaves Nordsjaelland, after he was promoted from assistant coach to head coach in January 2023.

In order to secure a spot in the Europa Conference League qualification rounds, he guided them to a second-place

result in the Danish Superliga that season.

Thorup led them to the European competition’s group stage in his first full season in charge, and they went on to

finish fourth in the Danish premier league.

In an interview with the team’s website, Thorup stated: “I’m thrilled, and I hope the fans are too. I’m hoping we can

work together to produce something. It is crucial that they take pride in the team.

“I sense a connection to the city, the club, and the people.” So far, everyone I’ve met has been incredibly kind,

modest, and laid back.

“I’m here to listen to some of the excellent work that has already been done, but I also have certain ideas and ideals

about how we should play. It is imperative that I convey unequivocally that this is a collaborative endeavour, and

that sentiment must be shared by all.”

After placing sixth in the standings the previous season, Thorup’s Canaries are getting ready for their third straight

Championship campaign.
