Tributes paid as former Celtic star dies aged 38 following tragic car accident

Following his death in a car accident in his home Cameroon, former Celtic player Landry Nguemo has received

tributes from the football community.

Prior to the 2009–10 season, the 38-year-old joined the Hoops on loan from Nancy and made 43 appearances,

playing under both Tony Mowbray and Neil Lennon.

In addition to earning 41 caps for Cameroon, he was honoured to represent his nation in two World Cups: the 2010

edition in South Africa and the 2014 edition in Brazil.

Nguemo will be recognised for his contributions to football. He was a vital part of Girondins de Bordeaux and the

Cameroonian national team from 2006 to 2014.

“The entire football community, along with his family and friends, receives our sincere condolences,” said

FECAFOOT.

“Everyone at Celtic Football Club is shocked and saddened at the news of Landry Nguemo’s passing at the young age

of 38,” the team said in a statement. Celtic then paid homage of their own.

At this difficult moment, Landry’s family and friends are in everyone at Celtic Football Club’s thoughts and prayers.
