Land claim throws Penrith Stadium plans into chaos

The Penrith Stadium location in Sydney’s west is the subject of an Aboriginal land claim, which the NSW government will contest.

The stadium is set to undergo a $309 million renovation, with major construction expected to start in 2019 and be finished by 2026.

When the land claim was eventually considered as part of the planning process for the new stadium, it was submitted by the Deerubbin Local Aboriginal Land Council (LALC) back in November 2009; however, the NSW government rejected it in April of this year.

But that decision was appealed by the NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) on behalf of LALC in August.
