Bucs Re-Sign LS Zach Triner, Make Practice Squad Moves

After Zach Triner held the position for the previous five seasons, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided to start Evan Deckers in his first year of play as the long-snapper for the 2024 campaign. Now they are reverting by necessity.

Deckers is on injured reserve after suffering a hamstring injury during the Bucs’ Week Three matchup with Denver. On Tuesday, the team took that action in addition to re-signing Triner, who was a clear and wise choice to cover that gap.

On their practice, Tampa Bay also made three changes, one of which being the re-signing of rookie cornerback Keenan Isaac. When the organization required a roster spot to promote defensive lineman C.J. Brewer from the practice squad on Friday, Isaac was let go. The Bucs also signed punter Trenton Gill. to that 16-man crew and released punter Seth Vernon.

After signing a long-snapping contract with the Buccaneers in 2019, Triner played in 75 games during the regular season until the previous one. He not only snapped field goals and punts without any problems, but he also racked up 10 special teams tackles. He participated in nine postseason games and was a member of the 2020 Super Bowl LV winning squad. He will now wear jersey number 45 instead of 97, as he did previously.

After being selected in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Gill has appeared in 34 NFL games, all for the Chicago Bears. Over the previous two seasons, he was the Bears’ sole punter, recording a net punting average of 46.1 yards and a gross average of 46.1 yards per kick. average of 39.1. He went to training camp with the Denver Broncos this summer. Gill, who played his college ball at North Carolina State, will wear number 16 for the Buccaneers.

After signing with the Bucs in 2023 as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama State, Isaac primarily served as the team’s practice squad member during his rookie campaign. He saw action in two games after being raised for game day twice and spending three weeks on the active roster. This summer, Isaac returned to training camp with the Bucs; however, after the 53-man roster cutdown, he was waived and claimed by the Carolina Panthers. After suffering a string of injuries at cornerback in the team’s season opener, the Panthers dismissed him on September 7 and, three days later, Tampa Bay re-signed him. He participated actively in the Bucs’ Week Two victory and played on special teams.
