Ex-Dave Matthews Band member arrested for DUI
An arrest has been made over a former well-known member of Charlottesville’s Dave Matthews Band.
Around 5:54 p.m. on Monday, June 24, the Albemarle County Police Department (ACPD) reported that officers were
called to a two-vehicle collision near Seminole Trail (U.S. 29) and Woodbrook Drive.
Boyd Tinsley was placed under arrest by officers on suspicion of DUI. He was sent to the Regional Jail in
Charlottesville, Albemarle County.
The collision does not appear to have caused any reported injuries.
From 1992 until 2018, Tinsley played violin with the Dave Matthews Band.
He was fired from the band after a trumpet player who had previously played with Tinsley’s side band, Crystal
Garden, accused him of sexual assault.
The two struck a financial settlement in 2019 on the charges.
As a member of Dave Matthews Band, Tinsley will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the fall. It is
unknown, though, if he will be there for the event.
