Breaking: Boston Bruins have made a final decision on Jeremy Swayman amend trade…

As the Boston Bruins continue their contract negotiations with goaltender Jeremy Swayman, a

resolution remains elusive. According to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun, both parties are in ongoing discussions

but have not yet reached an agreement. Swayman is clear about his expectations, specifically regarding

the contract’s length and annual average value (AAV), creating a notable divide between what he desires

and what the Bruins are willing to offer.

The Bruins have established an internal deadline for finalizing Swayman’s contract before the season

opener on October 8. General Manager Don Sweeney has indicated that, while December 1 is a hard

deadline for Swayman to be signed to play this season, the team aims to finalize the deal much sooner.

As a restricted free agent, Swayman is particularly interested in securing an eight-year contract that

reflects his value.

Reports indicate that Swayman’s camp is aiming for an AAV between $8.5 million and $10 million, while

the Bruins’ offer hovers around $6.2 million to $6.4 million. This disparity has led to frustration on

Swayman’s side, with Spittin’ Chiclets host Ryan Whitney noting that the Bruins’ initial offer was

perceived as a lowball, impacting Swayman’s willingness to negotiate.

Interestingly, Swayman is not heavily relying on comparisons with other goaltenders’ contracts during

negotiations. While he acknowledges the recent extensions of Juuse Saros and Connor Hellebuyck, he

feels that the market underestimates the financial contributions of goalies like himself and Igor

Shesterkin. Swayman is determined to claim a more substantial share of the salary cap for goaltenders

, wanting to ensure his compensation reflects his contributions to the team.

Having just come off a one-year arbitration-awarded contract worth $3.475 million, Swayman is keen to

remain with the Bruins. He is aware of his leverage, especially if the team struggles early in the season

without him. As discussions continue, it remains uncertain whether the financial gaps can be bridged

before the start of the regular season, but Swayman appears steadfast in his position.
