The Kansas City Chiefs have announced the signing of running back Kareem Hunt to their practice
squad, reuniting with the player who initially gained fame with the team. This decision comes in
response to injuries in the backfield, particularly after Isiah Pacheco, the team’s leading rusher,
sustained an ankle injury during the recent victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Hunt, who previously starred with the Chiefs before his release following an incident involving assault,
was brought in for a workout as the team faced a shortage of running backs. With Clyde Edwards-
Helaire sidelined due to a non-football illness, Kansas City is relying on undrafted rookie Carson Steele
and veteran Samaje Perine to handle the majority of carries. Hunt will likely spend a few weeks on the
practice squad to familiarize himself with the playbook before making a game-day impact.
Originally drafted by the Chiefs in 2017, Hunt made an immediate mark by leading the league in rushing
yards as a rookie. However, his career faced a significant setback after a video surfaced showing him
assaulting a woman, leading to his release from Kansas City. He subsequently spent five seasons with the
Cleveland Browns, where he accumulated over 2,200 rushing yards and signed a contract extension.
As the Chiefs pursue their goal of a third consecutive Super Bowl title, adding Hunt provides them with a
potentially impactful option as they navigate a challenging season ahead. With two narrow victories
already in the books, including a last-second win over the Bengals, the Chiefs are looking to bolster their
roster for continued success.
