Former Georgia Bulldog AJ Green Announces Retirement
AJ Green, a seasoned NFL player and former Georgia icon, has announced his retirement from football. Green created a legendary career at the collegiate and professional levels over his twelve seasons as a professional football player.
Green caught 23 touchdown passes and amassed 2,619 receiving yards while attending Georgia. Currently, he is third in receiving yards, second in touchdown receptions (behind only Terrence Edwards), and fourth in receptions in program history. In his career, he received two first-team All-American selections and won the 2008 SEC Freshman of the Year award.
The Cincinnati Bengals would later choose Green in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft with the fourth overall pick. As the highest-drafted wide receiver to ever come out of Georgia, he still maintains the record.
He had a late spell with the Arizona Cardinals but would play the rest of his career as a Bengal. In his professional career, Green was a seven-time Pro Bowler and twice made the second team All-Pro in consecutive years. At the end of his NFL career, he will have 70 touchdowns, 10,514 yards, and 727 receptions.
Green was regarded as one of the league’s top wide receivers early in his professional career and stayed in that conversation for a while. Green’s ability on the field was hampered as he grew older due to injuries he would later suffer, but at the height of his abilities, he was among the greatest in the industry.
Green will go down as one of the best football players to ever play at the University of Georgia and as a highly regarded player in the NFL when he finishes the last chapter of his career.
