Andy Reid announces official Travis Kelce bench decision as Kansas City Chiefs star continues NFL season struggles

The two-time Super Bowl champions are off to a 3-0 start this season under the direction of the Hall of Fame-bound

head coach.

They have been playing well; on Sunday, they defeated the Atlanta Falcons 22–17.

But superstar Kelce’s subpar play, which has been far below his peak, is a major problem for Reid.

Supporters and pundits have demanded that he be benched and that backup tight end Noah Grey take his position in

the starting lineup.

Reid talked on the reasons for Kelce’s dismal start to the season and whether benching him is a possibility on

Wednesday.

“That is not what the defences believe.

“Across from him, we have another receiver with a lot of catches and yards.

“This is the way it is. Trav is doing well. He simply remains Trav.

He puts up a lot of effort and hasn’t faltered. He’s not preoccupied.

“That isn’t true. They are ensuring his well-being.

Kelce’s first three games of the 2024–25 season have seen him grab just eight passes for 69 yards.

These are his lowest three-game stats in his NFL career to date, and there have been hints that his troubles stem

from his connection with Taylor Swift and a hectic summer party schedule.

Some fans even speculate that Swift’s absence from the game—she flew to New York for dinner with Gigi Hadid—

may have contributed to his lacklustre performance versus the Falcons.

This year, the unbeaten Chiefs are vying for an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl.

Additionally, Reid has already had to make a difficult choice in another role.

The left tackle for the AFC West squad has been replaced because Patrick Mahomes is under pressure on his

blindside.

Wanya Morris, a second-year star, and Kingsley Suamataia have both had slow beginnings to the season.

Additionally, Reid said that Morris will start their game against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4.

Suamataia’s future is currently uncertain as a result of his official benching.
