Just in: Norwich City Make Strategic Moves Ahead of the Season…

Norwich City: Canaries January transfer window planning

Norwich City FC is laying the groundwork for the upcoming January transfer window, with sporting director Ben

Knapper and head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup having already made significant changes to the squad over the

summer. This was all aimed at putting the club in a strong position to challenge for promotion in the Championship.

Head of recruitment Lee Dunn says the club is well-prepared to act on any promising opportunities in the new year,

should the team decide to strengthen further. “We’ve done the work over the summer to give us the platform to make

moves on our terms,” said Dunn. He added that if any opportunities arise that could benefit the club both in the

short and long term, Norwich will explore those options.

Recent January transfer windows have been challenging for Norwich. Dunn noted that past signings, like Ondrej

Duda, Marquinhos, and Sydney van Hooijdonk, had limited impact. Despite this, he highlighted that last January’s

loan of van Hooijdonk ultimately allowed striker Adam Idah to play more regularly, which led to his big-money

transfer to Celtic.

Dunn pointed out that in the January market, it’s often hard to secure players from big clubs as they’re reluctant to

let go of key players mid-season. Instead, clubs typically target young players seeking game time or players not

featuring regularly at major clubs. While this can result in higher risk, it also opens up opportunities for proactive

recruitment.

The January window presents its challenges, but Norwich City is confident they can make strategic moves if the right

players become available.
