Tracy, a former wide receiver at Iowa and running back at Purdue, has impressed with his performances, sparking a debate over whether he will take on a larger role despite Singletary’s return from injury.

Tracy recently had a breakout game with 129 rushing yards against Seattle, and he’s earned praise for his toughness and vision. However, the Giants continue to operate with a backfield-by-committee approach, relying on both Singletary and Tracy for contributions. The Eagles, on the other hand, lean heavily on Barkley, who has been their leading rusher and a focal point of their offense, though he has been less effective as a receiver.

Financially, the move makes sense for the Giants. Barkley’s contract with the Eagles is worth $37.5 million over three years, with $26 million guaranteed, while Singletary and Tracy together cost the Giants far less—$16.5 million for Singletary and $4.3 million for Tracy over their respective contracts. The Giants have been able to save on salary-cap space while still getting decent production from their duo.

While the Eagles have built a strong rushing attack, ranking sixth in the NFL in yards per game, the Giants rank 24th. They hope that with Singletary back from a groin injury and Tracy continuing to shine, they can improve their ground game moving forward. Both teams also benefit from quarterback contributions to their rushing attacks, with Jalen Hurts rushing for 196 yards for the Eagles and Daniel Jones adding 164 for the Giants.

The upcoming matchup between the Giants and Eagles will mark the first time Barkley faces his former team, and it will be interesting to see how the two backfields perform against one another.
