The Kansas City Chiefs have been going full-throttle in practice this summer as they prepare for the 2024 season.
As fans know, injuries are part of the game, but no one wants a starter to be injured before the regular season begins.
During Wednesday’s practice, offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor was taken off the field with a shoulder injury, giving the Chiefs cause for concern.
Although Kansas City is not concerned about the injury in the long run, he is unlikely to play in Saturday’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions.
Andy Reid does not expect Jawaan Taylor to play on Saturday.
When speaking with media on Thursday, head coach Andy Reid revealed that he did not believe Taylor and Jaylen Watson will participate in the preseason game.
Reid said that the starters are anticipated to play the first half against the Lions, resulting in Taylor losing some key reps.
Starters aren’t anticipated to play in the third preseason game against the Chicago Bears on August 22, thus this will be the final tune-up before the regular season begins on September 5 against the Baltimore Ravens.
The 2023 season was harsh for the Florida kid, as he led the league in penalties (20) and allowed five sacks. He also earned a 51.6 total PFF grade.
Even while the preseason isn’t the end of the road, earning experience during these summer games pays off big when the regular season begins in September.
The most essential thing is that Taylor be healthy for the regular season, so this isn’t the worst news, but it doesn’t change the reality that he’ll miss some crucial snaps.
