Announcement: JR Motorsports shortlist drivers for Changes Ahead of 2025 Xfinity Series..

As JR Motorsports approaches its 20th season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, significant shifts in their driver lineup could be on the horizon for 2025. After a strong performance just two seasons ago, where three of their drivers made it to the Championship 4, this year has seen a notable decline, with only one driver currently positioned in the top 10 of the standings.

Justin Allgaier, the team’s veteran presence, has consistently performed well and is currently ranked second, having secured his playoff spot with a victory at Darlington Raceway. Allgaier aims to clinch his first Xfinity Series championship this season, bringing his extensive experience to the forefront. Meanwhile, Sam Mayer has had a mixed bag of results, recording two wins but struggling with five race finishes that have left him in 12th place. Despite his challenges, the 21-year-old driver still has a chance to vie for his first championship.

On the other hand, Sammy Smith and Brandon Jones are positioned below the playoff cut line, making their chances of competing for a championship slim unless they can secure late-season victories. Smith, who joined JR Motorsports after racing with Joe Gibbs Racing last year, and Jones, who is looking to break a streak of playoff-less seasons, face an uphill battle as the regular season draws to a close.

Amidst these fluctuations, JR Motorsports has confirmed that young talent Connor Zilisch will take over the No. 88 Chevrolet next year. While this entry isn’t currently a full-time ride, it signifies a shift towards integrating fresh talent. Speculation suggests that Brandon Jones may return to Joe Gibbs Racing, where he previously found success. Mayer, too, is being eyed by several Cup Series teams, making his potential exit a possibility as he contemplates moving up the ranks.

As the team looks to rebound from a difficult season, the prospect of additional driver changes looms large. With only Allgaier and Zilisch expected to remain in their positions, JR Motorsports faces crucial decisions about their lineup. If they continue to field four full-time drivers, they must determine which current car numbers will remain and which might transition to part-time status. The coming months will be pivotal as the organization strives to revitalize its performance and reestablish its presence in the competitive Xfinity Series landscape.
