In a preseason friendly, Derby easily defeated Matlock Town 3-0 to get their Championship preparations underway.
Paul Warne, the manager, got to watch a few of his new acquisitions in action as Dutch midfielder Kenzo Goudmijn played the final 30 minutes while Kayden Jackson and Jerry Yates registered goals.
Warne wants to keep gaining ground in the transfer market, and the friendly was a great method to do so. Fortunately, he’s almost certain to make his fifth summer signing.
Derby County and Ebou Adams are almost signed.
Derby County has made it clear that their top objective during this transfer window has been to recruit midfielder Ebou Adams of Cardiff City.
Throughout the second half of the season, the 28-year-old was a fantastic loan addition for the Rams, as his commanding midfield performances contributed to the team’s elevation.
Fans began urging David Clowes to sign the Gambian player long-term as a result, and the team has been putting a lot of effort into making a deal ever since.
Although the asking price initially presented a challenge, Derby and Cardiff were able to come to an agreement last week on a £900,000 deal for the player’s signing.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has recently expanded on that allegation, claiming that Adams is expected to sign a three-year contract within the next twenty-four hours once a deal has been “agreed.”
This is great news for all the club supporters since they will now be able to rediscover their passion for the player, who had a “immense” influence last term.
Transfer priority for Derby County following the signing of Ebou Adams
Warne’s team only gave up nine goals from the time Adams joined Derby in January as they secured a second-place result.
That was mostly because of the midfielder’s strong and ferocious performances, which assisted the Rams in winning the midfield fight.
Adams will start at the base of midfield upon his return to Pride Park, using his amazing ball-winning skills to give Derby a lift in the engine room.
But now that he’s here, it’s obvious that Warne needs to deal with the custodian situation—he apparently lost out on Mathew Ryan, the former custodian for Brighton and Arsenal.
Warne worked with Marek Rodak at Rotherham, and Derby had previously been connected to him. Daniel Iversen of Leicester City has also been on Derby’s radar.
After Adams, the custodian is effectively the next position that needs to be prioritised before considering coverage for defensive players like Curtis Nelson and Eiran Cashin.
