After making a return trip to Thorp Arch earlier in July, the Whites are deep into preseason training this week, with Daniel Farke aiming to improve upon his performance in the Championship.
As part of the deal that sent Archie Grey to Spurs, Leeds has already made one high-profile addition with the announced arrival of Joe Rodon.
Leeds will bring in a new custodian to take Klaesson’s place.
Three years after his arrival in 2021, Kristoffer Klaesson’s permanent departure from Elland Road was confirmed over the weekend.
Klaesson’s tenure at Elland Road came to an end when he signed with Polish team Raków Częstochowa, leaving after three senior appearances without letting up.
Following this, Leeds has two senior goalkeepers in Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier, which may force the team to look outside the market for a third-choice goalkeeper to take Klaesson’s place, according to the YEP.
Regarding rumours of a potential hire, Football Insider revealed that the team was considering an unexpected move for former academy stopper Alex Cairns, just prior to Klaesson’s departure.
Salford City, a League Two team, now has the 31-year-old on their roster. He assisted his team in winning the August penalty shootout against Leeds last season.
It makes perfect sense to replace Klaesson with Cairns.
Since that we are discussing a third-choice keeper, neither the in-game nor out-of-season transfer will significantly alter our campaign.
But if Cairns is the right guy to take Klaesson’s position, it’s a good bargain to enhance the experience Farke sorely needs.
Even though Cairns doesn’t play on the pitch, we benefit much from his skills in the locker room and the standards he sets for himself there.
