The Kansas City Chiefs made a roster move on Friday, per the official NFL transaction report released on Friday. In order to make room on the roster for former Illinois defensive end Owen Carney, the team waived linebacker Luquay Washington.
Carney weights 275 pounds and is 6 feet 3 inches. He was not included on the Miami Dolphins’ opening roster for the regular season when he first signed on as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He is currently 25 years old. He was added to the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad in November of that year, and later, they signed him to a reserve/future contract for 2023. However, he was left off of the team’s regular-season roster once more.
Carney played in 55 games over the course of five seasons at Illinois, tallying 116 tackles (53 solo, 21.5 for loss), 16 sacks, a forced fumble, and three passes defenced.
With 90 players on their active roster, the Chiefs now have 91 players under contract. Chukwuebuka Godrick, an offensive tackle, is excluded from the roster for the International Pathway Program. The Chiefs’ current estimated cap space is $14.1 million.
