White Sox Reportedly Turned Down Trade Offer From Padres

Guaranteed Rate Field Information Guide | Chicago White Sox

In less than a year since taking over as general manager of the White Sox, Chris Getz has already been bestowed with two of the hottest pitching commodities available in the trade market.

He was assigned the duty of trading Dylan Cease during the offseason. It was widely known that Getz was demanding a hefty fee for the former American League Cy Young runner-up. He had an asking price, and he wasn’t going to back down until it was paid. Getz eventually received a four-player return from the San Diego Padres, led by top-100 prospect Drew Thorpe, thanks to his parsimonious negotiating tactics.

Getz is now trying to take advantage of Garrett Crochet’s early success as a starter. According to Bob Nightingale of USA Today, the White Sox plan to move Crochet following an unsuccessful attempt to extend him.Getz has already been approached by other teams, including the Dodgers, to trade for Crochet. But according to reports, the White Sox are looking for a handful of young prospects with “tremendous upside”.

After weeks of attempting to secure the greatest return, one benefit Getz has from inheriting Cease is that he already has some familiarity with the other farm systems in the league. Additionally, he has been able to establish rapport with a number of general managers, who have extended trade offers to him. Nightengale claims that the Padres are attempting to negotiate with Getz once more.

He said over the weekend that the Padres “recently made an offer” for Crochet, but “it was dismissed quickly.” He continued by saying that opposing GMs are unsure if Crochet would be dealt because of Getz’s exorbitant asking price.

The Yankees are cited as another team interested in acquiring the southpaw’s services, and it is said that the White Sox still plan to move Crochet. But Nightengale claims the White Sox are “demanding” that Spencer Jones be a part of the agreement.Jones, an outfielder of 23 years old, is presently ranked by MLB Pipeline as the 74th best prospect in baseball. The front office plans to trade for more impact bats in the farm system after selecting left-hander Hagen Smith with the fifth overall choice.
