Bradford City, Chesterfield and Bristol Rovers are interested in Sheffield United defender Miguel Freckleton, according to a report by BristolLive.
The centre-back is attracting plenty of interest across the Football League following his loan spell at Chesterfield last season. He helped the Spirerites gain promotion from the National League under Paul Cook and they are keen on luring him back on a permanent basis
Freckleton, 20, sees his contract at Sheffield United expire at the end of next month and he is due to become a free agent as things stand. The Blades have offered him fresh terms in an attempt to keep hold of him following their relegation from the Premier League but he is said to be weighing up his options.
As per BristolLive, Bradford City, Bristol Rovers, Fleetwood Town and Wycombe Wanderers will rival Chesterfield for his signature this summer. Unnamed teams in the Championship are also believed to be considering a swoop for him as well.
Bradford City and Chesterfield eye Sheffield United defender
Freckleton has a big decision to make regarding his future at Sheffield United.
He would get more game time if he moved to a team in a lower league which is what he needs at this stage of his career.
The Bristol-born man played for Mangotsfield and Bristol Rovers before moving to South Yorkshire in 2021.
Freckleton has never made a senior appearance for the Blades but has been a regular for their development squad in the past.
He had loan spells away at Wealdstone and Yeovil Town to get some experience under his belt before Chesterfield came calling.
The left-sided defender played 19 times for Cook’s men last term to help them seal the fifth tier title.
They want him back as they gear up for life in League Two but they will need to see off competition from elsewhere.
The Spirerites have landed striker Paddy Madden, midfielder Tim Akinola and winger Kane Drummond recently and are in the hunt for some more acquisitions.
Battle is on
Bradford City have already brought in Antoni Sarcevic and Neill Byrne from Stockport County as they look to get promoted next year under Graham Alexander and could see Freckleton as their next addition.
The Bantams may need to push the boat out to get him though with the likes of Bristol Rovers, Fleetwood Town and Wycombe Wanderers also mentioned as potential suitors.
