Nate Davis, the Chicago Bears’ senior offensive lineman, has seen his approval rating decrease over the last year.
While Davis experienced a family loss last summer, which caused him to miss the most of the team’s Training Camp and Preseason, his situation in his second season with the team has been uncertain, to say the least. So much so that head coach Matt Eberflus appeared to criticise his starting right guard a few weeks ago, implying that starting roles could be lost if a player is unavailable.
Davis returned to practice this week and spoke to media on Thursday following the Bears’ joint session with the Cincinnati Bengals. Davis provided little information on the injuries that had kept him inactive prior to this week, but he did affirm that his priority was on being there and available to his teammates and coaches. Davis also denied that he and Eberflus had a falling out.

Eberflus said on Thursday that the Bears’ starters will play today against the Bengals. Given his return to practice, Davis is anticipated to start as the Bears’ right guard when they take the field today at Soldier Field.
Davis’s health and availability are critical to the Bears’ offensive line, which has been hampered by injuries in recent weeks. Presumed starting centre Ryan Bates has been battling with an injury in recent weeks, forcing Coleman Shelton to take over as the team’s starter at the position. Prior to Davis’ injury, Bates was playing right guard.
The starting offensive line that the Bears will have today appears to be the same one that will open the season. Shelton and Davis will play centre and right guard, respectively, with Darnell Wright and Braxton as two tackles and Teven Jenks as the left guard.
