Tuesday marked the first day of rookies’ training camp for the Chicago Bears. On Friday, after Caleb
Williams’ media session, Williams responded professionally when questioned about his rep total for the preseason.
Some people don’t think the preseason is that essential, and those in positions of power also seem to
think so, as evidenced by the preseason’s reduction from four to three games.
Caleb Williams, the first overall pick and rookie quarterback, has an other perspective on the preseason.
Caleb Williams opens up about upcoming reps for Chicago Bears in preseason
Following his selection with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Williams has emerged as the
Chicago Bears’ standout offseason player. The Bears’ offseason has featured a lot of Williams-related
narratives, whether it be related to the pick itself, Williams’ salary, his teammates’ endorsement of him,
or a variety of other factors.
In all fairness, the Chicago Bears have not yet found a franchise quarterback, thus any newly signed
quarterback will likely be expected to take over as the team’s starting quarterback.
But, as is evident throughout the league, quarterbacks who excel in college do not always translate that
success into the NFL. The media actually believes that Chicago Bears supporters have unrealistic
expectations.
Williams appears to be fully committed to become a legendary NFL player whose impact endures well
beyond his own life. To help the players see their goals whenever they glance at their phones, he has even
urged other teammates to start using his iPhone wallpaper goal list.
Williams’ remark that all reps are significant is noteworthy mostly because it shows that he
comprehends the rationale behind what it takes to be a great player in this league. Williams hopes to
experience the same level of success with the Chicago Bears as he had in college.
Williams believes that preparing against the Bears’ defense is just as essential as getting reps during the
preseason. Under the “iron sharpens iron” theory, Caleb Williams can benefit from the support of
Chicago’s secondary. They’re capable of being among the league’s best secondaries, if not already, and
they can provide Williams with looks that will help him develop into an even more skilled quarterback.
As though While some fans may find the NFL Preseason to be rather dull, Williams views it as an
invaluable opportunity to improve and become the finest quarterback in the game.
