Me And The Club Agreed – Celtic Star Explains Loan Exit
This summer, Auston Trusty, a centre-back from Sheffield United, signed with the Scottish champions.
Gustaf Lagerbielke, who joined Celtic in the summer of 2023 and played in just 10 games across all competitions the
previous season, was another one they shipped out.
The Swedish defender was given permission by Brendan Rodgers to go on a season-long loan to FC Twente in the
Netherlands.
Lagerbielke brought up his lack of playing time at Celtic, and the team and he agreed that a summer loan move
would be the most advantageous solution for all involved.
He said that the chance to play in the Dutch Eredivisie and the Europa League was a factor, and that Twente’s small
squad with distinct duties for each player sounded ideal for his loan move.
Lagerbielke told the Swedish publication Fotboll Direkt, “I didn’t get much playing time at Celtic and both me and
the club agreed that a loan would be very good for both parties.”
Then I thought about my alternatives, and I saw that there were a few clubs spread throughout numerous nations.
“I met with various clubs and weighed the benefits and drawbacks of each.
Following the meeting with Twente, it seemed like a great “match,” thus that’s when the decision was made.
“Their training methodology is distinctly development-oriented.
They place a great deal of responsibility on each member of their very small team.
“That felt like the perfect combination, along with playing in the Dutch league, which is very good, plus the Europa
League.”
Having found it difficult to make an impression at Celtic, Lagerbielke will be eager to prove his mettle with Twente
this season.
