After a rainout the previous evening, the Dave Matthews Band (DMB) returned to Jones Beach on July
18 for a much-anticipated make-up concert. The atmosphere was electric as frontman Dave Matthews
thanked fans for their patience and dedication, setting the tone for a night filled with beloved hits and
surprise covers. “Thank you so much for making your way back this evening,” he said, aiming to deliver a
memorable performance.
The concert opened with “The Last Stop,” marking its first live rendition since September 2018, much to
the crowd’s delight. This song, originally part of the setlist for the rained-out show, highlighted the
band’s ability to adapt and engage with their audience. The night also showcased a lively rendition of
“Corn Bread,” featuring impressive slide guitar work by Tim Reynolds, adding to the vibrant energy of
the event.
DMB kept the excitement going with an unexpected tease of the rarely performed “Kill the Preacher”
during “The Song That Jane Likes.” Saxophonist Jeff Coffin, who missed the previous night due to
illness, returned to the stage, delivering standout solos in tracks like “Lover Lay Down” and “What
Would You Say.” The concert also featured a playful mid-set cover of Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer,”
along with a medley that combined AC/DC’s “Back in Black” with the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive,” smoothly
transitioning into Steve Miller Band’s “Fly Like An Eagle.”
As the night drew to a close, the band delivered an emotional encore that included “Where Are You
Going” and the upbeat “Louisiana Bayou.” Matthews expressed his gratitude to the audience, even
staying on stage after the final song to take selfies and interact with fans, demonstrating the strong
connection DMB has with their supporters.
Overall, the make-up show at Jones Beach was a resounding success, showcasing the band’s incredible
talent and ability to create unforgettable moments. For a complete look at the setlist and more details,
