Breaking: Derby County is about to finalise a deal to sign a top midfield player…

In the race to recruit Silkeborg midfielder Stefan Thordarson, Derby County is up against QPR, Preston and other teams three times.

The Icelandic international, who played against England in their 1-0 victory last month, has piqued the curiosity of Preston, QPR, and the Rams.

The 25-year-old Thordarson, who scored nine goals for his team in the Danish top tier last season, is in the final six months of his contract, and Derby is willing to pay a premium to acquire him. Reports from Denmark claim that Preston is ahead because Thordarson is reportedly leaving for England today.

Silkeborg anticipates the midfield player leaving, and Thordarson’s window of opportunity to recover some financial losses is now closed. Over the past six months, Derby has scouted Europe for talent, and throughout that time, Warne and his coaching staff have kept an eye on youngsters from Denmark and Holland.

After letting go of Conor Hourihane, Max Bird, and Korey Smith, Warne hopes to assemble a whole new midfield before the Championship season. However, he has already brought in Ben Osborn on a free transfer from Sheffield United, with the 29-year-old kicking off their summer operations. With Silkeborg, Thordarson has played in almost 90 games and netted 13 goals.
