Former Chiefs CB Announces Retirement from NFL.

Following a nine-year stint in Houston, former Chiefs CB Steven Nelson formally confirmed his retirement from the NFL.

Nelson stated his plans to Houston’s KPRC 2. In addition to pursuing other business ventures, such as a cattle farm and his Corner Suite podcast, he will now spend time with his expectant wife.

Nelson, who was selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, played for the Chiefs for his first four seasons before playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Houston Texans.

Chiefs Update: CB Steven Nelson Has Made His Retirement Announced

Nelson recorded 456 tackles, 78 deflected passes, 13 interceptions, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries in his nine-year career. In 2023, he rose to the position of captain for the Texans and gave up just a 73.3 passer rating when targeted.

The former Oregon State star had four interceptions in four seasons as a Chief and 182 tackles overall.

Nelson stated, “Retirement, after thinking it over and having some talks with my family, I think it’s time for me to take a step back and spend more time with my family,” in a phone interview with KPRC 2. In addition to several off-field business endeavours, I wanted to fully commit my time and efforts to our impending infant. I’m incredibly proud of the things I accomplished in the football game.”

Nelson, who is only thirty years old, has the potential to still have a significant impact on the game even if he wants to spend time with his family and retire when it’s time.

Over the past ten years, the Chiefs have established a reputation for having top-notch cornerbacks, and Nelson has played a key role in bridging the gap between the team’s traditional defence and its modern one. Nelson had a successful career even though he never had much postseason success.
