BREAKING: Leeds United is on the verge of offloading a player who earns more than Summerville…

In contrast to the lineup that was used for the heartbreaking play-off final loss to Southampton, Leeds United’s starting lineup for their first Championship match of the season at the beginning of August may very well be a fresh one.

Archie Grey has already made his way out of Elland Road, and there are now speculations circulating that Glen Kamara, a former Rangers player, will follow soon after.

The news that Leeds would be able to secure their Finnish midfielder helps to ease the pain of the 28-year-old leaving West Yorkshire after only one season, especially with newcomer Joe Rothwell supporting Daniel Farke’s team in Kamara’s place.

The future of Glen Kamara at Leeds

Fabrizio Romano claims that a deal has been finalised for Kamara to join Ligue 1 team Rennes this summer, with the Whites expected to earn a respectable profit.

Leeds, who paid just £5.5 million for the reliable 28-year-old last year, appear to be looking to sell him this transfer season for almost £3 million more, with a deal worth roughly £8.5 million almost finalised.

Leeds will feel they can make the most of this money by signing a suitable Kamara successor, especially because Rothwell has already joined on loan from AFC Bournemouth to cover injuries in Farke’s squad.

The amount Kamara is paid at Leeds

The Championship team hasn’t made much of an effort to retain their number eight, who didn’t score a goal in the previous season. Part of the reason for this is his hefty salary, which allowed him to earn more money each week than Wilfried Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville, two important Leeds players, according to Capology.

Exit talks held: Leeds must now sell a star who earns more than Summerville

Looking at the salary cap for the 24–25 season, Kamara would be taking home a healthy £22.5k weekly income if he continued to play at Elland Road.

That would put his salary beyond that of some important Leeds first-team players, whom Farke and others will try to hold onto tighter if clubs make a move.

Both Gnonto and Summerville, who together played in the Championship for 79 games last season, are paid less, at £20k and £15k per week, respectively. They are eager for a raise should a major transfer materialise this summer.

In particular, Summerville, who scored an absurd 29 goals in second-tier play under Farke last season, will be begging for a big move that will pay him far more than his current salary.

With eight goals in the 23–24 season, his Italian teammate on the right wing has also had his fair share of attention at Leeds. The season began with the former FC Zurich forward requesting a transfer and even refusing to play.

Leeds would suffer a devastating morale loss if they lost both of these brilliant attackers, but Kamara—who former Whites hero Jermaine Beckford called a “machine” after a 1-0 victory against Leicester City last season—would probably be easier to replace.
