In a significant move for the Miami Dolphins, head coach Mike McDaniel announced that the team will
sign quarterback Tyler Huntley from the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad as Tua Tagovailoa navigates a
concussion protocol following last Thursday’s game against the Buffalo Bills. While Tagovailoa’s status
remains uncertain, McDaniel indicated that the decision on whether to place him on injured reserve will
depend on further evaluations.
Tagovailoa is currently participating in the NFL’s return-to-play protocols. Although the team has not
set a timeline for his return, McDaniel emphasized the importance of prioritizing Tagovailoa’s health
over rushing back into action. He reiterated his belief that Tagovailoa should be the one to address
questions about his career, focusing instead on ensuring his well-being during this challenging time.
With Tagovailoa expected to miss the upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks, third-year
quarterback Skylar Thompson will step up as the starter. Defensive tackle Zach Sieler expressed
confidence in Thompson’s abilities, stating he has no doubts about Thompson performing well under
pressure.
Huntley, who has made ten starts in his career, including a Pro Bowl appearance in 2022, brings
valuable experience to the Dolphins’ quarterback room. McDaniel described Huntley’s addition as a
depth move aimed at enhancing the team’s quarterback dynamics, noting that it’s not a direct critique of
Thompson’s capabilities.
As the Dolphins prepare for the challenges ahead, the focus will be on maintaining team morale and
ensuring that both Thompson and Huntley are ready to lead the offense in Tagovailoa’s absence. The
Dolphins continue to rally behind their injured leader while setting their sights on a successful season.
