Due to health concerns, Sven van Laere, a well-known driver in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, has announced his
immediate retirement from racing. Van Laere revealed his sorrow at having to give up the sport he has loved for 27
years in a touching social media post.
According to Euro NASCAR, he told his fans:
“I regret to inform you that, for medical reasons, I will no longer be participating in motorsports. Being a part of the
motorsport community for almost 27 years has been both an honour and a pleasure.
“I got the chance to race against some of the best drivers in the country and the world as an active gentleman driver.
drivers who have established themselves in the past, are doing so now, and will continue to do so in the future.”
When looking back on his career, van Laere recalled competing with some of the most well-known drivers in
EuroNASCAR, such as Marc Goossens, Gianmarco Ercoli, Lucas Lasserre, Max Lanza, and Michael Bleekemolen.
“I’ve had the privilege of participating in several outstanding competitions over the years. The NASCAR Whelen Euro
Series, which is run by the Galpin family, is arguably the best of them all because it’s more than just a championship.
“Great memories were made by the teams as well as the championships. CAAL Racing, my Italian motorsports
family, is one of them. For the past two seasons, I have been a driver for this squad. I shall always be very happy
about this, grazie mille.
Though not in control, Sven has ambitions for the future. He plans to use his enthusiasm and expertise to help his
son, Maxim van Laere, who is starting karting as a way to enter the racing scene.
In homage to his father’s profession, Maxim will proudly display the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series colours on his go-
kart.
“I will enjoy the races from the sidelines.”
A renowned racer who was well-known for his sportsmanship and friendship in addition to his speed is leaving the
