HOT SEAT SEPT. 28 Two coaches on the “hot seat” came in. Only one man departed. The Dallas Cowboys’ 20–15 victory over the New York Giants on Thursday night might have gone other way. Should the Cowboys fail in this game? With Dallas’ record at 1-3, head coach Mike McCarthy is on the verge of quitting. Still, the Giants fell short against Dak Prescott and company for the twelfth week in a row. McCarthy’s butt cools for a week as a result. However… “Toast,” ex-Giants player Chris Canty uttered. “Brian Daboll is toast.”

The Giants are 1-3, and predictably seem to be going nowhere fast. So we don’t disagree with Canty. But we do recognize the fine line that exists between winning and losing and hiring and firing.BURNS IN SEPT 22? With a groin injury late in the week, pass-rusher Brian Burns of the Giants raised doubts about his fitness for today’s game against the Browns in Cleveland. Burns is a coveted free-agent addition. Although he was marked as dubious, NFL Network now states he “should be good to go” for Week 3. UPDATE ON SEPT 21 INJURIES Pass-rusher Brian Burns of the Giants has been added to their injury report. Due to a groin issue, Burns is rated as questionable for Sunday’s Week 3 game at Cleveland. With that designation, there’s a chance he’ll play on Sunday. We’ll keep an eye on it.

SEPT 19 SACKS? The Cleveland Browns won last week at Jacksonville even as they were missing starting tackles Jedrick Wills and Jack Conklin. There was pressure put on quarterback Deshaun Watson, as the Browns allowed 18 pressures. What does this mean for Week 3 vs. the Giants? Not enough … as the Browns hope to have both of their standout tackles back against the Giants this week. On Wednesday’s injury report, Wills was a limited participant in practice, while Conklin practiced fully.

Watson has struggled for the 1-1 Browns; there is vulnerability there. And the 0-2 Giants, who have had similar offensive struggles to start the year, have faith in their pass-rush abilities. That may be the centerpiece issue this week to determine a winner. SEPT 17 – CAROLINA CHAOS – The New York Giants found out their Week 10 game against the Carolina Panthers would come against a lighter opponent when star defensive tackle Derrick Brown suffered a season-ending meniscus injury. On Monday, the Panthers changed course again, this time at quarterback.

The team declared that Andy Dalton, an experienced quarterback, will start ahead of starting quarterback and 2023 No. 1 pick Bryce Young. Dalton is probably an upgrade considering how bad Young had performed through two games—245 yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions. When the Giants and Panthers play in Germany in two months, it is unclear at this time if Dalton will start. However, given the current state of affairs, the competition may have a significant impact on the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

13 SEPT – BROWN OUT There’s no doubting that the New York Giants had a difficult week. Still, things could have been worse for the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers’ quarterback and first-round selection, Bryce Young, may not feel as good about the team as the Giants do after losing 47–10. The team’s finest player, defensive tackle Derrick Brown, suffered a meniscus injury on Monday, which was even worse news. Brown will miss the remainder of the season. Week 10 festivities will take place in Germany with New York taking on Carolina.
