NASCAR News: Two Crew Members Suspended After Substance Abuse Breach
According to a story from On3.com, NASCAR has announced the indefinite suspension of two crew members for
violating the sport’s substance abuse policy. A cloud was cast over the week’s events when the suspensions were
made public soon after the Pocono Raceway event.
The two parties in question are 23XI Racing’s Cordell Cahill, an IT support employee, and RJ Otto, who served as
Bret Holmes Racing’s temporary crew chief the previous season but isn’t on the team this year. In order to preserve a
fair and safe competition, NASCAR’s regulation requires members who fail drug tests to face such penalties, though
specifics have not been made public.
Cahill and Otto will only be reinstated if they successfully complete a customised recovery plan, which is standard
procedure and provides crew members with an organised return to the sport, provided they follow recommended
rehabilitation protocols.
The Craftsman Truck Series, a different NASCAR circuit, reported a minor infraction involving Ross Chastain’s car.
Phil Gould, the crew chief for the No. 45 Niece Motorsports truck, was fined $2,500 for having a loose lug nut. In a
more controversial matter, though, drivers Corey LaJoie and Kyle Busch were involved in an incident during the
same series that did not result in penalties, even though their crash appeared to be intentional.
While these regulatory steps are taking place, NASCAR is getting ready for the highly anticipated Brickyard 400
return to Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With the fan response to the previous road course setup being lacklustre,
the event signifies a significant return to the oval track. Heavy favourites like Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson are
anticipated to draw sizable crowds as they celebrate the 30th anniversary of this legendary event. Fans are anxious to
see a resurgence of historical rivalry and racing history at the renowned venue.
