Slipknot drops drummer Jay Weinberg, the latest longtime bandmember to exit this year

Slipknot has broken up with yet another long-time member of the band.

Over the weekend, the heavy metal band posted a statement on their website announcing the resignation of

drummer Jay Weinberg. Weinberg’s ten years of service and his efforts to pay tribute to late drummer Joey Jordison

were both praised by Slipknot.

The statement added, “But Slipknot is intent on evolving as ever.” “The band has chosen to split ways with Jay in

order to pursue other creative endeavours.”

When word of Weinberg’s departure appeared on the band’s social media platforms before being ostensibly

removed, it drew criticism. Fans questioned Slipknot’s choice to split from Weinberg on Instagram.

Instagram user @joaodiogo.sgssb commented on a recent Slipknot post, saying, “Can’t believe you guys just dropped

jay.. he was the one who gave the old slipknot flavour to the band again…well hope you guys know what ya doing.”

@itz.izabella, an Instagram admirer, remarked, “Justice for Jay.”

The band’s purported removal of the Instagram announcement and comment-disabling was criticised by other

Instagram users.

In response to separate requests for comment from The Times on Monday, representatives for Slipknot and

Weinberg did not immediately reply.

Five months after disclosing information about sampler and keyboardist Craig “133” Jones’ resignation in June,

Slipknot revealed Weinberg’s departure. Joining the group in 1996 was Jones.

2014 saw Weinberg, the drummer Max Weinberg’s son from Bruce Springsteen, join the group “Duality.” Before

replacing Slipknot founding drummer Jordison, who left the band in 2013, the drummer from New Jersey

performed with the bands Madball and Against Me!. Jordan passed away in 2021.

Weinberg contributed to multiple albums released by Slipknot between 2014 and 2022, notably “.5: The Grey

Chapter” and “The End, So Far.” Weinberg was selected “Metal Drummer of the Year” in September by the Modern

Drummer Readers Poll.

Weinberg expressed her gratitude in an Instagram post from September, saying, “To know that the hard work my big

bros in @slipknot and I have put in over these past two years has made meaningful connections with many of you

out there is a total gift.” “Really appreciative of everyone who has listened to our music.”

On Saturday, Weinberg shared a reflection on his time performing in Mexico on Instagram. Hell & Heaven was a

three-day rock festival that had Slipknot as one of its headliners.

Weinberg wrote in the caption of a picture of himself in front of a drum kit, “What a year 2023 has been.” “A

wonderful way to end an incredible year filled with unforgettable shows.”
