Norwich City: Keeper Jayden St Paul announces retirement

Following two years of surgeries for a knee problem, the 20-year-old, who signed a contract extension with the

Canaries at the beginning of this season, made the announcement on social media on Monday afternoon.

Along with former loanee Isaac Hayden, members of the City first team, including Jon Rowe, Abu Kamara, Jonathan

Tomkinson, and Vicente Reyes, sent their well wishes to St Paul.

After a trial, the keeper joined the Canaries from Uxbridge FC and signed his first professional contract in 2021.

“As some of you may know, I have struggled with a serious knee injury over the past two years,” he wrote on

Instagram. I’ve undergone numerous surgeries, various treatments, and obtained multiple opinions from specialists.

“I have decided to retire from professional football after giving it some thought. I am certain that this is the right

choice, even though it was a very difficult one. I tried my hardest to go back into the game, but now it’s more vital to

put my physical and mental well-being first.

“I want to express my gratitude to Norwich City, my family, and my friends for their support during this difficult

period. Even though this is a significant setback in my life, I can grin knowing that I gave the game my all and am

eager to take advantage of any great chances that may arise.

“Better days are on the horizon; it can’t rain forever.”

In the same article, St Paul also disclosed that later this week, his personal story—including his arrival to the

Canaries, his injury setbacks, and his ultimate decision to retire from professional football—will be made public.

“I’ve worked with @blackarrow_fc and @grassrootsandbeyond to share my experience, which I hope will help others

who are going through a significant setback or are in a similar situation.

“I talk about my experience entering a professional academy, the harsh realities of the sport, my struggles with

depression, and realising that it’s acceptable to seek assistance when necessary. Later this week, this will be made

available.
