Celtic hit with fan ban after Dortmund firework display

After Celtic’s fans set off pyrotechnics during this month’s Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund, the

team was fined and suspended from selling away tickets for one European fixture.

Despite suffering a heartbreaking 7-1 loss in Germany, the Scottish team may yet be subject to additional sanctions

due to the actions of its supporters.

Celtic received a €20,000 fine and a suspended ban for the October 1 incident, according to confirmation from

UEFA’s control, ethics, and disciplinary body (CEDB) on Wednesday.

“The CEDB has decided to fine Celtic €20,000 and to ban Celtic from selling tickets to its away supporters for a total

of one UEFA club competition match, for lighting of fireworks,” the statement from UEFA stated.

“Said ban from selling tickets to its away supporters is suspended for a probationary period of two years, starting

from the date of the present decision.”
